if you are really interested in a team, if they give you a verbal offer and you want to join, tell them you are a real offer (if allowed). If not, they are just using you as a place holder hoping someone better comes along (or signs)

This is a first team.

DS did this and did get an invite prior to tryouts but we were noncommittal until we got the offer in writing.

Also adding that at another club that DS practiced with, the coach told us he would be placed on the first team.

Considering people have said that they've had verbal offers rescinded, I would say if you're not even being offered a specific team just count that as they like your kid but they definitely would be happy to have somebody else in their place and not count on it.

Did the coach of the first team ever discuss why an offer wasn’t made?! It’s pretty darn &$#% of him if he didnt.

This was u14. The coach never gave an explanation though we did hear from him again mid-year when he wanted to know if DS was still interested in a spot on his team. We said no.

Probably for the best then. Horrible communication and then sounds like he had quick turnover of player(s). Sounds like you dodged a bullet.
