CalTech was test blind til 2030. I don’t trust anyone

True, and Harvard backpedaled, so who knows?

Isn’t Harvard the only school to have backpedaled? All other schools have at least some integrity in that they have not promised something, only to pull the rug out.

CalTech just announced the end of TO.

If your kid isn’t applying to UCs only, they need test scores. WM just announced this years results. Even if the stay TO, 70% of admits submitted test scores.

This year, will those kids who would have been TO submit anyway or just not apply at all? Will the test score ranges come down or will that take a few cycles? Will this actually make it easier for future applicants?

Hopefully the number of applicants will go down, and then kids won’t have to apply to so many colleges.

I think it's going to be tricky for the '25 HS grads.

I don’t think many more schools will switch for the 2024-2025 cycle- it is very late and frankly unfair to kids, who may not have planned to test and only now have a few remaining dates before ED applications are due. It would be giving an even bigger advantage to the kids who start private prepping a year in advance because they can afford to take it multiple times.

I do think more schools will bring test back but they will announce one more year of TO and then back to it.

We were at an info session at Tufts this week and they basically said they don’t care about test scores at all. It made me wonder if they were aiming to catch a large share of the kids leftover from the new policies.

Not a bad move for them.

This was not the message we got from them in our tour a few weeks ago. It was much more of a nuanced “if you think your scores reflect your abilities we’d love to see them and have it be part of our holistic review. If not, we are comfortable reviewing without scores.”

CalTech backpedaled even more. Their website used to say, don’t send us the scores. We won’t see them.

They were test blind
