Find it impossible not to care, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it. Boeing turned into a junk airline maker after the finance types took over and they outsourced all their manufacturing. I think recently they found parts at one of their suppliers lubricated with dish soap.

i avoided the Max 9 the first trip I took after the Alaska air incident but it's impossible for me to completely avoid Boeing because I mostly fly United and occasionally Southwest. My feeling is, we hear about the incidents when they happen but we don't hear about the thousands of flights that go without incident every day so the odds seem to be in my favor.

The 20 year old Boeings are fine. Those were well made. It's the ones built after the merger with McDonnell Douglas (1997) and spin off of Spirit Aerosystems (2005) that are the problem. That's when the rot set in and they started cutting corners.

I look at every plane I fly from a seat arrangement perspective as well as plane type itself. Refuse to fly Max, over spring break I changed from Southwest to United (where I have no miles or status) because the only Southwest non-stop options were on Max planes. Nope.

Just did. They did have to fix an inner cabin panel but all was fine!

I’m flying to BKK this week & specifically picked Turkish over Qatar b/c Turkish flights are AirBus.

How can you avoid Boeing? An airline can swap out a plane anytime.

This. I can see why people feel like avoiding it, but there are pretty much only 2 major airplane brands.

I think people are really over reacting. I definitely think Boeing has really made a mess of things and their QA needs revisions. However, flying is one of those things that is so random. You really would have a greater chance of your car malfunctioning than flight having dire emergencies. Of course it's going to be a risk flying on a Boeing but I suppose I could win the lotto and win but I'm pretty I won't. That is in addition to the fact that I won't fly every single day. I may fly 3-4x a year and in a year I travelled the most, it was still only 10 RT flights. For the average passenger, the risks just aren't crazy high. I'd rather get to my vacation destination and look forward to enjoying my R&R than worry about how I'm going to get there.

Absolutely not.

The aviation safety record of US airlines is among the highest in the world for a reason. Even with all of the recent incidents none of those planes crashed and everyone arrived safely. Millions of people fly on Boeing airplanes every single day without incident. You will be just fine!

I am avoiding Boeing right now (the 737s at least.) I had to fly an Alaska 737 from Hawaii the day after the door fell off the 737 in Portland. (The flight wound up being cancelled) It seems like every week there's a new issue with a Boeing plane, and I don't want to be on one of them. Then a whistleblower just came out today and said the Dreamliners aren't safe. I would prefer Airbus if possible.
