We need both. And I’d bet my life savings that guys gun wasn’t acquired legally.

What gun?

The one the perpetrator said he had.

There. Was. No. Gun.

If there had been, it would’ve been seen.

So if someone threatens you with a gun but doesn’t pull it, you’re supposed to assume that he doesn’t have one? That seems like a really bad idea.

What are you going to do, tough guy? Pull out your gun and shoot him?

I don’t own a gun. I’m not sure what your point is. If someone says they have a gun, the prudent thing to do is believe them.

Why believe a criminal? What makes them credible?

If someone HAS a gun, they don’t need to imply anything- they just pull it out.

The only people making threats to pull out a gun are the people who don’t have one and are bluffing.

If you want to take that chance, be my guest. But if someone threatens me with a gun I will proceed as if there is one.

You should call things like that in

I should but in the past they have asked my name which I am not comfortable doing – being portrayed as the white Karen calling on an African-American man walking his pit mix without a leash. Sorry not going to be that person.

I have an elephant in my backyard.

I have 11 giraffes. And a panda.

Private ownership of a panda illegal. I have reported this post to the FBI, CIA, and PETA.

What would dog ownership reform entail? There are already laws requiring leashes but agree that enforcement and penalties are needed.

Most dog owners want to see leash laws enforced. My leashed dogs are most in danger from unleashed dogs.

No, people who love their dogs enjoy exercising their dogs unencumbered. They have zero interest in any leash law. They also generate the lion’s share of donations to AWLA.

The AWLA-employed animal welfare officer doesn’t want people flouting the leash law, as dumb as this law is. But he wasn’t going to issue a citation. The dog owner should have blown off the AWLA officer, then called AWLA HQ to complain. By implying he has a gun he muddied the waters when he was on solid ground given the zero chance any citation would be issued.

I don't understand why you're both bickering. Threatening someone with a gun, whether you have one or not, is a crime.

No, it's not. I would post the code section, but I can't do that since there isn't one.

1) yes, enforcement of leash laws. That includes people who use stupidly long leashes, or don't have their dog under control when the dog is leashed
2) enforcement of ban on dogs in establishments, other than legitimate service animals. We may need some ADA changes, but even with current ADA laws it's still permissible to turn away anyone who cannot tell you what task their "Service animal" is trained to perform.
3) make it harder to adopt a dog. There are way too many clueless dingdongs who just want a furry companion without the responsibility and work. Maybe have dog owners complete some kind of course before adopting or shopping for a dog?

The most clueless of ding-dongs are buying dogs from the backyards of other ding-dongs. Cracking down on adoption requirements is unlikely to help. I remember being shocked watching a young woman waltz into Whole Foods with her full-sized doodle a few years ago (definitely not a service dog of any type), now I see it all the time. Even on my last cross-country flight in Feb, there was a poorly-behaved French bulldog "Emotional Support Animal" - thought those were banned?!
