I think the onus has shifted from maintaining good grades to not revealing unsavory behavior on social media.

A few years ago I read about a bunch of DMV private school kids who wrote some racist stuff on Insta and they all had their college offers rescinded.

My nephew barely attended HS his last semester. They still let him graduate through some kind of special exception but part of the deal was that his college would be notified. College (top tier) did not care. Terrible lesson for the kid as he got away with it but he is a successful college sophomore.

They do to protect themselves but the most they do absent Fs is to do what the PPs have said: ask for an explanation or issue a warning. Now if you failed a bunch of key classes they may have an issue but otherwise you are fine.

My DC's offer from Berkeley a couple of years back had a requirement that there can be no more than 2Cs (or something like that) and the average senior GPA had to be above a 3.3. So some schools do have conditions in the offer.

My DS had senioritis second semester of senior year after being admitted to MIT. He was asked by the admins to explain what happened and what was his plan for the fall. He wrote a response that was not exactly what i would call respectful. I was mortified. Nothing happened. He started school in the fall and did well and that was the end of it.

Some students are accepted by universities in the fall, as early as September or October. Do you think the schools are fine if they slack off all the rest of senior year?

A student I know had a few Cs first semester of senior year and an overall GPA much lower than usual. The university required an explanation and ultimately did not rescind the offer.

I got a warning letter from the college I went to after senior year of high school because I had a B- on a fourth quarter grade. That was my first and only B in high school and it had been a rough semester (father was ill). This was late 90s.
