Lots of teen girls at the high school where I teach help their moms clean houses. It is a source of pride for the family that their teen is contributing. Same for all the teen boys I see doing yard-work with all the local landscaping companies.

What this weird DC area doesn't keep in mind is that when immigrants come to this country they all also bring their culture with them. Open your minds, liberal folks, and get over your selves. Most immigrants come to the US to work, and that includes their children.

My first thought would be 1) he wants to snoop around to steal things or 2) he wants to make money.
I cleaned houses during high school too because I needed money.
Your husband’s reaction is bizarre in my opinion.

Horrible idea. I agree with your husband. It’s too close to home. Chances are things would be fine but don’t risk it. There is too much liability for all involved. You could offer a job to do weeding, lawn or mulch instead.

My kids vehemently didn’t want me asking neighborhood kids that went to the same school who they weren’t friends with to pet sit. I respected their wishes and hired rover instead.

A teen once offered to rake our leaves and gave up at one quarter of our small yard. I paid him well despite it because it was apparent his mom wanted him to do something active and get out of the house. He was so slow and mopey.

Agree DH take is weird but it's his house too and he has the right to veto this. Everyone should be comfortable with the choice.

I wonder if his real concern is a young girl could accuse him if SA.

Op here. The main concern from DH perspective is any bullying, rumor spreading, etc having a freshman entering the same school as this older student who would be a senior. I get that high school has always been tough, but is it too close to home? Would you think the older girl would spread rumors? I suppose it’s based on personality which we wouldn’t know until she actively came to clean.

Your husband is way too paranoid. This is such a weird thing to worry about. It would be way worse for the cleaning kid to admit they clean houses. Was your husband terribly bullied?

I think a teen who is savvy enough to start their own business would understand that it is counterproductive to badmouth their clients.

I think there are valid reasons not to hire her but worrying about her spreading rumors about your family is an odd concern.
