Come on, lets give this person the benefit of the doubt. For one thing, they didn't say they thought their player could -- other people said that. For another, we all found DCUM at one point or another. OP is trying to get a sense of the soccer landscape. Which is totally fair.

Arlington is AD.

All 3 made last years playoffs with Bethesda advancing to semifinals. They each have pluses and minuses depending on what DD is looking for and the positions she's comfortable playing. FVU and Arlington will have similar practice commutes from the Virginia side while Bethesda can be a bit farther away. If you're going to live Virginia, you'll hit traffic getting to Bethesda practice every day.

Arlington lacks scoring but has a strong defense. Arlington 2010 coach is also a private catholic high school coach in DC, maybe it's the same school DD will end up choosing.

FVU is combining two teams (Union and BRAVE) for the fall, so roster numbers might be higher. Both teams coming together for 2010 made playoffs, so roster going to be very strong if they really took the best of both. Mustangs played Union in the playoffs last summer, so you should have a good idea of where DD compares to that roster pre-merger.

Bethesda typically relies on starters with minimal substitutions, so it will be more important to lock into a starting spot there and might be harder to break in initially. Strong on both offense and defense.

Volatile year? It's been volatile since covid, at least in NOVA. I don't have a 2010 kid, but go to practices at Bethesda, Arlington and FVU. Also, watch games, everyone should be starting back up. Unfortunately, VA teams already had tryouts so you may be stuck with Bethesda. For any of the teams see how your DD compares to the other players. She should be better otherwise your kid may be sitting on the bench.

Tryouts are never really over. There is always a spot for a good enough player

Arlington has the most pompous parents followed by McLean and then Alexandria.

If you are considering looking in MD, there are some National League options that would be more chill for sure and still have a high level of play.

There are as many as 5 ECNL and 3 GA options to consider depending on where you'll be living and how far you're willing to drive. I'd suggest not listening to anything on this message board and check them all out for yourself. None of them will be perfect and none are as horrible as they seem on here

Your kid would need to be a superstar on their team to make the BSC team. It's a team that loves "athletes." They look for speed and individual skill vs. the chemistry of an overall team (they are not judging; they get results). Its not clear what the new Union or whatever team will look like. Arlington has nice girls and more of a team-first focus, but it also isn't as competitive.

Not sure why you would have DD play ECNL and not HS - I would t think you'd want to do it the other way around if the idea is to lessen the pressure and have fun!

Because DC privates align better with MD based club schedules. HS soccer is a waste of time its only for fun if you have time and are no at risk for serious injuries

Isn't the point that OP is looking for a more chill situation for her kid? I truly don't get people not playing for their school teams unless they actually find it to be an unpleasant experience.

They are from Cali so yeah good chance they are taking someones spot. If kindness to new families is the criteria, you're only option of the three is Arlington. Good thing winnig was not in the criteria
