Which colors have been/ will be around long enough to ensure I'll always be able to get matching pieces?

I like the pinks and greens, but the available shades keep changing. There are lots of shades listed here https://www.lecreuset.com/our-colors/shopby that are not included in the main list of colors: https://www.lecreuset.com/explore-colors.html. But some of the main list looks trendy too. Is "Shallot" pink here to stay or will it go the way of "Provence" purple?

I know Flame and Cerise will always be there and they are gorgeous, but they're not my personal style.

Cerise and Flame are not acceptable to you? Ugh. I cannot imagine what is, then.

Not their "personal style" lol.

Yes, and what about it? I’m not one of the PPs you are referring to, but Cerise and Flame aren’t my personal style either. I like cool tones much better. That’s totally fine, and luckily LC recognizes that people have different preferences so they make all kinds of colors.

While we’re talking Le Creuset ( I have deep heartfelt regard for my Dutch oven), does anyone have experience with any of its myriad impostors? Most of mine were purchased 25 years ago and I am guessing that there are now some lower priced contenders available.

I got an Amazon one. In spite of its high ratings it is not great at all. Super clunky and chips at the drop of a hat.

Yes, they work on induction.

+1, it works.
And to test any of your other pots, hold a magnet to the bottom of the pot. If the magnet sticks, the pot will work on an induction stove.

I’ve had a sur la table brand dutch oven for almost 20 yrs and it is going strong. It looks like Le Creuset but was much cheaper (I realize by now the Creuset would have paid for itself, but I was a young professional when I bought it and could only stomach the price of the Sur brand, and it’s worked out grand).

I think americas test kitchen did a test on them, maybe see if available somewhere (paywall website).

There will always be availability on ebay and other restocking / thrift outlets. I wouldn't worry too much.

I have a collection of greens and blues. I like a lot of the colors, so I went with a complementary collection instead of all one color. I frequently use them together and I think they look nice. I have Agave, Sea Salt, and Artichaut. Also a couple of Staub pieces in similar shades.

If you want to go with a matching set, I’d suggest one of the very core colors - Marseille is a nice blue.

They discontinued Teal last year and I got a Dutch oven for like 75% off. There might still be some left if you look.

Cooking is central to getting a good life, poster - and having excellent cookware elevates the experience from drudgery to pleasure. Le Creuset is the best performing cookware going, and the colors make it far more pleasing to the human brain than stainless steel or dark cast iron. I’m fair sure that any functional MRI results would prove that assertion.

Anonymous wrote:I first discovered Le Creuset several years ago - I grew up poor so didn’t have exposure to luxury brands. When I used some pieces at a friend’s house I recognized how much they were worth the price given the performance - and the delight that the beauty of the pieces brought as well.

I have a decent collection now, maybe a dozen pieces, and I bought them at the outlet store and from the website and from secondary retailers (they have their own colors by contract with Le Creuset) and all the pieces were on sale when I got them - so I made the conscious choice to mix and match with a range of colors and not try to have a matched set.

I really love my little collection. Years ago a friend gave me a lovely hand painted pasta bowl from Spain which hangs on the wall above my stove, and the many colors in that bowl are reflected in several of my LC pieces so it’s a kind of matching. It’s eclectic.

Beyond the core primary colors I don’t think you can count on any of the others sticking around for the long term. So if you’re not a fan of the orange, red and blue you should just go for a mixed set.

Thank you! I am in the same boat, I didn’t grow up with this and I certainly am not inheriting any pieces, but I would like to invest in a few reliable pieces.

By blue core color, do you mean Caribbean (as mentioned by other PP)? Is that the most consistently available blue?

I do have some Caribbean pieces and I think that color has been around for a while, but the blue that I think is one of their core ‘never retire’ colors is Marseille - it’s a deeper blue, very pretty.
