SAT and AP scores are about even, but Banneker’s tiny IB program and limited AP offerings are a major handicap. J-R’s size is a problem now but that should abate with MacA scaling up. As it stands, motivated kids probably have better options at J-R than Banneker.

Thanks. Found the SAT (https://dcps.dc.gov/publication/dcps-data-set-sat) and AP (https://dcps.dc.gov/publication/ap-score-data-sets) spreadsheets. The averages are indeed as you say. I would have expected Banneker to do better but I take it that there is a very long thread from a few years back on that topic.

Given that they got rid of test scores 4 years ago as part of admissions, look for this variance to decline moving forward.
Yes, all the available Walls SAT data is based on classes admitted by exam. It’s pretty to think that the school itself is responsible for the scores, but the fact is that kids who are good at taking exams tend to be good at taking exams.
The PARCC scores haven't declined that much for the new classes, so I don't know that the SAT scores will, either.

While that cohort was fabulous-- and sent plenty of kids to ivys-- they enrolled in Banneker before the move to the new building. In the new building, the school is attracting a broader student profile. Furthermore, while Walls may have higher average SAT scores it also has a significantly lower at-risk student body and since SAT scores correlate directly with household income it makes sense that those students would test higher. Meaning: it's not an attribute of the school's quality, it's an attribute of the school's higher SES families. (Walls at-risk = 12%; Bannekeru at-risk = 29%)
Jackson-Reed has about the same percentage of at-risk as Banneker but lower SAT test scores.

Because they’re measuring different groups at JR. SAT is all students at JR, AP is only some students.
No.
The AP number is the percentage of kids with an AP score who scored a 3, 4, or 5. That percentage is higher at J-R than Banneker.
Also, not everyone takes the SAT since some kids take the ACT instead or take neither the SAT nor ACT since many colleges are test optional.
