How does the vibe at VT compare to UMD if youve been to both.

TIA

Meaning: your kid will have cadets in their classes. These students come in wearing their uniforms. Neat, clean, and crisp, and they come to class respectful and prepared. It raises the game for everyone else.

This makes the school feel more like West Point than a state university. Off putting for many.

I really think this was one of the reasons my dd didn’t like it.

That is awesome

Our accepted senior is going to Spend the Night with the Corps this week! Fingers crossed!

You realize that many universities have ROTC on campus, right?

Yeah, but it is few students. It would be 1 in a 500 chance you have a class with one and that they would be in uniform in a class.

I also find it a weird comment. It’s not a negative but not a positive either…it just is.

Would have been content anywhere but very happy at VT. As a parent, I really enjoy the town since it is walkable and has a lot of things to do in a compact area. I think some people visit and fall in love (or not), so definitely walk around the campus and town. P.S. We live far away where no one cares about UVA vs VT.

+1
My kid is a humanities major, but loves VT for all the other reasons you mentioned. There is something for everyone there.

If the plan is business school this is a no brainer. Business decisions are almost always risk vs reward value based decisions. Direct admit to business school vs a chance you might not get into business school. What is the correct business decision. There is your answer.

Help us understand why you need to decide? Are you going to college? Let your kid pick where they are going to be for 4 years.

My family member just graduated last year, liked it but didn’t love it. Female.
Did it in 3 years and was happy it was over.

Returning to OP’s statement that DD prefers VT over UVA, it’s okay to support DD’s choice here. Lots of love for the Hokies. (Although others may prefer UVA - or other schools - your DD’s preference is all that matters!)
