My question is specific about the role of the ref in that situation. We have seen players get yellow cards for a simple S word at this age, so it seems to me that the coaches should be held to a similar standard. What do you think?

What team does this person coach? and PS: I do not believe you that you've seen 10 year olds get yellow cards for saying "sh-t".

Foul and abusive language is a reason a ref can give a card. Some refs tolerate more than others but I can’t imagine any club condones that on their sideline.

who cares, not everyone has the same beliefs that you do and I don't really think they are thinking about hell or any other place to send that person to. It's just words. If they change the words with the same expression it's still the same intent. Stop being so hurt by words. If I change GD to Golly Geez with the same frustration, it's the same thing but now your feelings aren't as hurt?

Golly Geez is not expressing the sentiment that a person spend eternity in hell.

Not everyone believes in your heaven and hell.

Are you ok with your kid saying GD to you?

Its about how its used.

Yes I am ok with that. If it's about how its used, any word can be a no-no word

Just because certain words are offensive to you, doesn't me that a referee should give a card to a coach or a kid for saying them....but the referee has a alot of leeway to give cards here. The overarching law is Unsporting Behavior. A referee can give a yellow card to any player or coach for unsporting behavior and it's up to that particular referee to determine what's unsporting and what isn't. Dissent by word or action is specifically stated as a reason for a yellow card. So this doesn't even have to be foul language. But the biggest one is Offensive, Insulting, or Abusive Language. This is a straight red. Again, it's up to the referee to determine what is offensive, insulting, and/or abusive language. So every referee is different and context is important. I don't believe "bad words" fit this. However, context is everything. If a kid goes down with an injury and says..."my F---ing knee." That's not an issue for me. However, if I call a foul and he loudly says "what the F--- ref". That's a yellow for dissent. If he call me a f----ing a-hole. That's a straight red. If a coach is dropping F bombs at U11 game. I'm having a chat with him after I hear the first. The 2nd one I'm give a yellow for USB. But in summary, I guess it all depends. What's insulting language for one ref might not be insulting for another.

High school probably not.

Disagree. Its disrespectful and inappropriate regardless of the age of the players.

+1. Allowing foul language normalizes the behavior and makes it acceptable. It’s a poor way of expressing oneself verbally.

No, that’s fecking, which is different.

To answer OP’s question, absolutely.

Fecking is part of their hello, I love you, and goodbye. Very wholesome.

How parents continue to pay for coaches like this baffles me. Compliance and wins mattering not than anything is why people like this coach still have jobs.

NP. I have no problem with my kid saying god dammit in front of me. AT me, is different.

What do you think these coaches are doing? Just telling Gds for the hell of it? No they’re upset at their teams performance and yelling Those words which is directed AT them.
