It’s a desolate, isolated, cold and depressing area with nothing nearby. It can snow from Oct-May and it’s a party school. Just my experience. I know others who have graduated from there.

Looking at Towson which is a Division 1 school, AU, Goucher, McDaniel….. my son is also not playing a sport.


PP sons gpa is 3.5 plus. Tests horribly so we aren’t even gonna do testing and is a well rounded person w lots of service volunteer work. He needs supports and a small environment likely.

Totally agree. I'm sure baseball is a source of joy and pride.

We looked into this a few years ago for DS who wanted a smaller school and would not have gotten in to UMD for engineering. At that time almost no one completed the engineering program there. We passed on the acceptance.

Being that he is coming from a private I am sorry to say that 2.7 is like a 2.4 or below compared to public school kids. I worry that he needs too much help unless he is very good at asking for help.

I would also suggest getting on Frostburgs website with him and seeing the courses required for the majors he's interested in. One that might help him decide on a major and two it might help see if he's motivated enough for a four year school.


I am concerned about whether he can handle college, too, but I think I should support him in trying. He won’t do any better living at home and going to CC - he doesn’t let us (or anyone) help him, really, so while we are moral support we don’t provide any organizational/reminders etc help. I am confident he’ll go to class and turn in his work.

Your belief that his 2.7 in private is equivalent to a 2.4 in public isn’t consistent with what I’ve seen/heard, but I’m sure you have reason for saying so. He isn’t good at asking for help and doesn’t get any help, essentially. Sometimes teens are really tough to help.

McDaniel is great for sports, but I don’t think they’ll take a 2.7/1100 (based on higher stat kid being rejected).

Frostburg is a good option.
