Fancy colored stones for engagement rings will become more popular.

Agreed. Diamonds are done for as a status symbol the way they used to be.

On the plus side, it makes it a lot easier to own lots of diamonds in different shapes and sizes if you just like the look and want variety

1 ct. Quality is more important than size

I’m a size 4.5 and I like 1.5-2 although it does depend on the cut

I have a bezel set .85 ct in a somewhat elaborate deco setting with other diamonds so there is a lot of finger coverage. I far prefer it to the 2.3 ct round mostly solitaire (tiny side diamonds) ring whixh just feels a bit bulky..I also have a 3.85 ct inherited ring I never wear…:. I wear a size 5 fwiw. If I stuck to a solitaire type ring I think 1.25-1.5 ct would be perfect for me.

For everyday wear, .5 - 1 carat is ideal. Anything larger looks ostentatious and gets in the way or snags on things. Save a larger stone for special occasions. Also, whatever you choose, make sure you have the prongs checked every year or so. The diamond fell out of my mother’s engagement ring due to a faulty prong.

This is what I’d have advised future DH to have bought for me almost 30 years ago!

Also, I’m a tiny ring size 5/actually 4.5 would be better but alas, I have icky knuckles.

Agree, 1 carat - have worn it every day, married over 25 years, and I still love it!
