Yes, and paying is the worst part in DC cabs; there’s no consistent system, so sometimes it’s the driver with a little Square terminal on his phone that doesn’t work. Curb eliminates that issue.

That is about the safest area of DC there is. While nothing is ever 100%, I think you’d be fine walking both ways, even alone.

This is what I look for. They can also call you a cab, as can restaurants (but nowadays, the server usually tells you to call an Uber—which I don’t like either).

During the day I’d want to walk (if safe )but at night I can cab it back (if not safe). I’ll be alone during the day. At night I’ll probably be with another 1 or 2 women. I’m a woman. Thanks again.

Yes, it's a very safe walk. From GWU head down Penn Ave and across the bridge onto M Street. You might see a homeless person or two, but that's about it. Lots of other people out and about during the day and fairly well trafficked at night too. I am a petite woman and walk around there all the time with my dog pretty late at night, never had an issue. I think you should be able to get a cab on M street fairly easily, it's kind of a main drag. If the weather is good, you'd also probably have some luck on K St. by the Waterfront.

Yes, you can absolutely walk from
GW to Georgetown alone during the day. Personally, I would probably do it alone up until maybe 9pm, but I may have a higher-than-average risk tolerance. I would assume you could get a cab back from Georgetown at night, but I don’t know where might be best to catch one anymore—I just use Uber these days.

I live in DC and don’t use Uber or Lyft. I love the curb app; it’s what I use in NYC, especially during busy times when hailing a cab can be difficult.

Cabs here are fine. They are private companies, which means there is some variation, but they need to meet a basic standard to be licensed.
