Good times.

My then gf (now wife) and I used to call in sick to work and catch matinees, sometime watching two or three movies in a row trying to catch up to the Oscar nominations. Then we'd hit Hanks Oyster Bar or Old Ebbit and have oysters, beer, fries and shrimp. Then we'd go home and bone.

We’d play a lot of tennis, have dinner parties, take day or weekend trips. My grandfather lived 30 minutes away and I’d visit him almost every weekend. Since we both worked long hours we had plenty of chores and errands to also keep us busy. And being young and childless we had plenty of sex same as we do as empty nesters. Most of our friends started having babies at the same time we did so all of our lives were upended but we still got together a lot as young families. It was a fun time.

Me too. I was consumed by work until I had kids.

I also worked out a ton and just spent so much time walking places rather than driving.

I still have young kids but before them, when I wasn’t working, I went to a yoga class most days, walked a TON around the city, went to the movies a few times a month, tried a lot of restaurants/bars/breweries/wineries, read for fun.

And watched a lot of tv shows admittedly as well.

In much of my 20s I worked ALL THE TIME. Seriously like 70+ hours per week. Zero interest in doing that again. Between working I could fit in a movie with friends on the weekend. And I still love going to the movies. DH and I go to one most weeks.

When I got out of that working-all-the-time job, I used my free time for...

riding my bike
hiking
volunteering
sewing
reading
movies and dinners with friends
visiting museums in DC
singing in a choir

Empty nester now and do all of these occasionally, except biking and want to get my bike serviced so I can start doing that when the weather warms up. Also, replaced sewing with crocheting (it's more portable)

My work was physically difficult that I simply slept and ran errands when I did have time off. Wish I had never worked so hard for minim wage.

Made films, went to museums and at galleries, explored trails with my dog, daytrips on bike and/or kayak, tried out chef's tasting menus, read about recipes i liked and then off to the farmers or fish market to source ingredients

On weekends, we’d sleep late. Make a huge breakfast and get sleepy and make vague plans to go biking. Finally set out for an hours long bike ride around 3. Late dinner in Old Town or DC. Repeat and add in the occasional Friday night Happy Hour or Saturday meet up with friends at a bar.

We spent a lot of time with friends. Out at bars, having parties, making fancy dinners. We'd set up article discussion groups and have political arguments with friends.

We walked our dog

We lazed in bed and played video games

We had long, leisurely sex

I read books for fun.

A completely different life...

I distinctly remember when my son was a newborn and I had to take a bathroom break and I was rushing to get back to him because he was crying, that I couldn't believe and had never really appreciated how much personal time I had pre-kids.

I am starting to think of this also. Youngest in 10th grade now. I plan on taking classes, volunteering and lots of day trips.
