20% always, 25% if above and beyond.

It's amazing how DCUM loves to brag about their HHI but god forbid they tip an extra $3-4 for a fellow human being who makes very little.

When you look at the numbers, the drivers are lucky if they make $15 an hour so I have no problem tipping them 20% unless the car is lousy or their driving is poor. Then it’s nothing. It’s an awesome service and certainly beats the old days of trying to call a taxi company.

I started using Uber in 2012 when it only offered black car service and specifically did it allow tips. I typically tip about 18%, unless the driver drives 90 miles an hour down the parkway to Dulles. Then they get $0. Also gave $0 to the driver who watched a movie on their iPad while driving.

I don’t tip Uber drivers either. Can we all agree to not tip and change the culture?

Uber drivers shouldn’t work for Uber if Uber doesn’t pay them enough. Fares are now more than taxis and Uber drivers don’t even know the roads. I don’t tip and anyone who does tip is just giving a handout to Uber to allow them to continue to abuse the 990 status and not pay their people adequately. It’s not my job to intervene between a company and its employees. I refuse to acknowledge just because Uber deems it so, that the drivers actually work for me.

I do not tip Uber drivers ever.

I always tip 20% because I have been a low wage slave and I know what it is like.

My son was tipping his uber driver for reservations in his college town (some uber drivers, but nothing like DC) from his apartment to the airport.

Since the activity gets shared with me, I looked at the email one day. Both the reservation fee ($10) and airport tax ($5 ish) were figured in the baseline for the 20% tip.

I told son to reduce his tip to 15%.

If it's under $10 I tip $3. If it's between $10-20 I tip $5. It's never over $20.

Haven't ridden Uber for years but typically tipped $5 for shorter distances, $20 once when 30 miles away.

Now, Uber Eats/DD we use pretty regularly, probably 2-3x a month and I'll typically tip $7-$10. These aren't tips vs bids for the drivers taking the pick-ups (same with driving) and they get super low base pay so if I'm paying for this luxury, I don't mind giving extra.
