La Preferida. You can also reheat them with some whole milk if you want them to taste like restaurant refried beans.

Yes. Drain two cans of pinto beans, put in blender with: a can of green chilis, a dash of garlic powder, dash of onion powder. Blend until you have just a few chunks of beans. Heat about 1/4 oil (or lard) in your cast iron pan, add the beans and stir in some shredded cheese (I like Monterey Jack). Stir in some more. They are done when the oil isn’t separating anymore.

I don’t buy canned refried beans anymore.

My favorite is the Kroger ones especially the pinto beans yum it tastes so good especially with some cheese on top even my kids like it it makes a good easy dinner.

Authentic or not? I don’t know from authentic, but I mash up a can of beans with the liquid and whatever flavors float my boat (sometimes fresh garlic, sometimes granulated garlic etc) and cook and mash to the preferred consistency. I add butter because I don’t keep butter on hand. We love it this way.

Used to like old El paso but something about the consistency changed in the last couple of years so switched to rosarita.
