OP here and I think I’m leaning toward Paris, but I can’t decide how to split the trip. We wouldn’t want to be in the city the entire 6 days. Instead we’d like 2-3 nights either in a smaller city, town, or countryside (maybe a wine region?). Looks like there are a lot of options within a few hours of Paris and I’m not sure how to decide.

Fly to Marseille (will require a stop unfortunately). Rent a car, stay somewhere in the countryside near Avignon (hour drive from MRS). In May or October the weather will be perfect- warm but not hot. Things will be open but not super crowded. Tons of things about an hour drive in any direction. Definitely spend at least one day exploring the little towns in the Luberon.

After 3 days, drop the car off at the Avignon TGV station, and take the train nonstop in 2:40 to Paris (same distance as DC to Boston, as an example of how great their train system is).

So many good easy places…

You could go to Bayeux to see some of Normandy and I just adore Mont Saint Michel.

Reims is a 45 minute TGV ride - champagne tastings and Chagall windows in the cathedral…

Someone already recommended the Loire Valley - definitely a good option.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are foodies - what about going to Lyon? Cute smaller city, amazing food…. Or even go spend a night or two in Valence and go to Anne Sophie Pic’s place…

Check out the villages in the Loire valley which isn’t too far (ex Chenencaux, Chambord). Maybe stay at a BnB or luxury hotel, book a hot air balloon and samples some wines.

Np here. Great thread. Just realized this June is our 15th. We’ve never done more than a dinner out for our anniversary. Kids will be at camp for more than a week in July so maybe we’ll take a trip too. I’d like to go hiking in Peru or maybe Ecuador but Portugal and Ireland also promising….we have been to Paris a couple times together and I go for work all the time).

If may maybe St John. I wouldn’t recommend Argentina for 6 days. It’s a lot of travel.

What did you like about it?

The whole vibe! We have several good friends who are Brazilian, so I think we already had this kind of good feeling about the place. We went to 2 great art museums, the Teatro Colon, the Japanese gardens. Are great food. Went dancing! We did not venture very far, to be honest, just enjoyed the city center. Stayed at Alvear Icon Hotel, which was pretty reasonable while still being kind of luxurious.
