2. Nice ladies on either side of us, we wave hello but that is the extent of it. There’s a clique of families in our neighborhood that I don’t think we’ll ever break into, despite also having young kids.

2-4. Know neighbors by sight and say hi, we pick up each other's mail during vacations. That's about it, no one seems to want to be better friends so I have backed off.

Take this thread as an incentive to improve your neighborhood.

I have elderly neighbors on one side of me that I have chatted with repeatedly so I know their names and would be sad to learn they'd passed away primarily because they are nice people and I'd be concerned about who moves in next.

I don't have a clue about the residents of the 5 other houses on our cul de sac - I know generally that some kids live in some of the houses and other kids visit (shared custody?) because I slowly drive by them and smile and wave when they are playing ball in the street, but I doubt I could pick any of them out of a lineup.

2 - I know most faces who live on the same block and I and say hello to maybe 5 of them.

10 houses on our street including ours, and have never even met the people who live in 5 of them- and we have lived here for 7yrs. Of the other 4:

-blatantly and weirdly unfriendly family (parents, grandma who lives with them, and 1 kid close in age to mine). Have made overtures and they act like I am crazy for even talking to them or waving etc. There is a cultural difference (but not a language difference) which may factor in fwiw. Their elementary aged kid is not even allowed outdoors-ever. (1)

-very friendly retiree couple-almost too friendly lol- but we don’t see them much as they travel a lot (8)

-other retiree couple- she is nice but he is extremely cranky and rude- does have some medical issues but still.. (5 I guess)

-nice middle aged couple with college aged kids who chat happily if we pass outside but they keep to themselves (8 I guess)

My neighborhood is pretty unfriendly and most of our neighbors are busy & active retirees (frequently traveling, at the golf course etc). Large lots, no sidewalks. Slowly turning over with more young families moving in. Most of us get to know each other a bit at the bus stop when kids are little. No problems or issues but there isn’t much socializing happening either.

I genuinely did not recognize my next door neighbor when she waved to me on the sidewalk. It was only watching her go up her sidewalk that I realized who she was. They moved in two years ago.

As you can see, the answer is 1.

3 houses are 8, but a 10+ for my kids, three houses are 4ish, then 4 houses are 0.

Two houses - 8
Three houses - 5

For most of the block, 1 or 2.

The person across the street: 9 or 10, she feels like a relative now.

I have ghetto neighbors and I now have to move when my lease is up. This area went to chit fast.
