It is not exhausting if you can afford to pay for convenience - direct flights from preferred airports at times that are not disruptive to family (no super early mornings or red eyes), Clear and precheck, closest parking lot at airport or uber, nice hotels/resorts with amenities in central location, etc.

If not in your budget, check out to points and miles game - plenty of tutorials online.

Many of the best places to visit require connecting flights and/or red eye flights.

Plenty of places to go to with kids without a connecting flight. I would rather pick a different destination.

It’s fine to be sad about not traveling more. Those are your emotions. Feel them.

Don’t feel bad though, as in, your kids certainly aren’t missing anything.

I grew up where we did “vacations” to see grandparents and rarely anything else. I love traveling now and I’ve noticed my friends who went to nice trips going up all have way too high of expectations and can’t afford the accommodations they want with their own money, so they complain. So, be glad you are not ruining your kids for later travel! Lol

We explain that we are saving money to be able to fly to see grandparents, and that is more expensive to fly over xmas break? This is more important to kids than Cancun, etc.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Stop comparing yourself to the Joneses. They’re going to do things differently than you. Focus on the memories and experiences you are having with your family.

Pp here. We probably travel the most in our circles. I grew up poor. We never went anywhere for any breaks. I didn’t know any better. I don’t think I was jealous. I just thought it must be nice to go to Spain for spring break or some place called Hilton head.

Growing up poor motivated me.

I have one kid who loves to travel like me. Another kid is neutral like my Dh. One kid would rather stay home for breaks. We will be away on a tropical beach or in Europe and he wishes he were home going to the mall with his friends during breaks.

Don't count other people's money. I grew up around families that traveled all the time, bought their kids new cars for their 16th birthdays, and generally appeared to live a life of abundance/luxury compared to my own family's frugality. Imagine my surprise when it came time for college and I had lots more choices/options than my friends, because my parents prioritized socking money into college funds vs. family travel.

You have no idea what's going on with other families or WHY they can travel more than you. Focus on yourself. If you're unhappy, make a change.

the CO2 emissions of these people are destroying the planet. Be proud that you are not one of these world destroyers (or a least to a lesser extent).

We have had a vacation in years, not even to relatives. No big deal.
