Maybe because both of those states currently want to form their own country? They wouldn't likely pair up though unless all the land between them was also part of it. Too much logistical nightmare.
The movie was made by Obama's film company, so stands to reason it wouldn't have much basis in military reality.

This is on MAX now, so I watched it last night. Disturbing...
Not sure if it bothered me because of the gore/violence, the lack of a narrative backstory/plot, or the fact that it felt eerily plausible.
The whole CA + TX bit was jarringly unrealistic, but I can see how it was meant to eliminate an obvious L/R bias.
Weird film, and gory enough that I'm not sure I want to watch it again to better understand why.

Kirsten Dunst was very good in this movie. I'm surprised they released it when they did, she should be nominated for awards for it.

I thought it was good, probably not something I’d want to watch again. Very disturbing in that it didn’t seem so far removed like almost all war movies. This felt possible, which was frightening.
And I agree with PP that not knowing the full cause of the conflict or who was fighting for what side made it more impactful. It’s not about the why. It’s about what ordinary people will do when they find themselves in this scenario. Some commit atrocities. Some are heroic. Some are reckless. And some pretend like it’s not happening.
