It’s a great school, great weather, built in trips to FL for you LOL

Plant Hall there is gorgeous. Student body is unassuming and friendly. Some kids are there to work hard, others to party but that’s not unusual.

A previous neighbor of mine used to teach there! He had nothing but good things to say, with the exception that he wanted a place that put greater emphasis and worth on research and not all teaching. So it just wasn’t a great match for him, but he did really like teaching the kids and being there

I’ve heard great things about Scranton, including happy students. They were generous with my child (she chose elsewhere, and I was a little disappointed but it’s not me in college). I would like Scranton as a college kid…nice students, no Greek life , party on the weekends. But it is pricey even w merit. Fairfield from what I hear is even more expensive, skews wealthy students, has a well known business program (so does Scranton), and is a bit homogenous student wise. No Greek life also . I’m not in NJ, but I hear great things about TCNJ including the price! Don’t know much about Tampa besides $$$. Good luck to your daughter!

I made the original post but none of the others following.

It isn’t just about abortion. FL has done many objectionable things recently, including what they did post-Dobbs. We have issues with their anti-LGBTQ+ laws and the changes they have made to curriculums, etc.

But let’s also be clear - many states are also making moves against birth control. If FL hasn’t already, they will. My daughter has serious problems with her cycle and has already tried an IUD-we are moving onto an implant now. All of these could be made illegal-don’t try to tell me “that will never happen”. That is how we got here.

4 year grad rate: Scranton 75, Tampa 57

Student/faculty ratio: Scranton 12/1, Tampa 17/1

Percent of classes smaller than 20:

Scranton 54 percent, Tampa 37 percent

Scranton overachieves. It has a cohesive student body and a high graduation rate. Its preprofessional programs are very well regarded and its graduates land good jobs. I find it very hard to believe that U of Tampa is anywhere near as good when it comes to these critically important metrics. I don't care what Tampa's admit rate is.

Having said that, Scranton is expensive. If I lived in NJ and my kid got into TCNJ I'd be hard pressed to turn it down for Scranton unless money wasn't much of an issue. If money isn't an issue, though, you can send your could to Scranton confident that they will enjoy themselves in a nice environment, graduate on time and have a marketable degree in the northeast.

Not true - Florida schools are more popular than ever. UF, FSU. UCF. Miami, Tampa. Great weather, good academics. They all had record applications.
If your DD got pregnant, why wouldn't she go home and get an abortion if that was her wish?

I read these posts and wonder whether you know about IUDs. Literally every college age girl I am close to has one. They say all their friends do to. And if they get pregnant despite an IUD, I am pretty sure you can get her home to DC. If you are paying for your kid to go to Tampa, it isn’t like your family is without access to medical care.
