These rankings are SO subjective. One list puts a school as #5 and another list puts it at #28. PLEASE don't get emotionally invested in the rankings.

On a Facebook page, I saw several people report that their kid got rejected from University of Florida, but got into an Ivy (I don't remember which Ivy). While it's not exactly what OP was asking for, I suppose that it's still a similar idea. I have also seen people rejected by VA Tech, but get into UVA.

DC 2024 has not gotten the results he’s wanted. It hurts now, but he will be ok. He’s had a lot of adversity and bad luck the past year going into senior year. So I feel for and can relate with your friend.

Having gone through the experience with DC 2022, the kids will end up somewhere great. I never thought DC 2022 would be going to the college where he is. In fact, when he applied I think I tried to discourage him - too far away, large school, etc. DC 2022 still applied and got in. We toured several schools during admitted student days and the school he is attending really was the right choice for him. It does all work out and they will have a great time. And where he applied ED to, deferred and then accepted was not where he ended up.

Thanks for being kind.

Not exactly within your parameters, but my child was rejected at University of Michigan last year; she currently attends Duke (deferred from ED)

Yield protection DOES happen--on a regular basis.

Accepted at ≈30th & 40th in the national rankings plus top of one of the regional USNWR lists.

I don't believe it was yield protection like PP claims.

I think some alum/parents like to deny that yield protection happens, but I have definitely seen it.

The schools in question:

Auburn (93)
Florida (28)
Purdue (43)
Coast Guard Academy (1 on the NE regional list)

None of these schools yield protect, probably because they're all public and none are high-prestige. If they were private, SLACs especially, I might agree with you.
