What about Judith Jane (lean into the boomer thing) and call her JJ.

I wouldn't to Judy as a first name. I know a Kathy who isn't Katherine, and she hates it. Given name is a nn.

Agree with all of this except Judith Jane. Judith feels fresh compared to the trends it feels like we've been swimming in for ages - surnames, flowery Romance language names ending in -a, and unisex hipster.

I'm the JJ poster. I'm not married to Judith Jane. But I do love JJ as a nn vs Judy. And I hear you. I am surrounded by unisex hipster names.

I don’t really like Judith but I LOVE Judy. If you’re not committed when the baby arrives, use Judy as a middle and then you could always call your DD by her middle if you wind up liking it.

I vote no, sorry. 3 of my friends had moms named Judy growing up and even then I remember thinking it was an unfortunate name.

Judith sounds a little stern, but I really like Judy.

If we decide to honor my mother-in-law, should we go with Judith and use Judy as a nickname, or simply give it to her as a middle name?

Judy could be cute as a first name. Say it outlaid with your last name and check the flow.

Well considering that it’s MILs name, exactly, OP has undoubtedly heard it said out loud many times!

I know a preschool-age Judy who absolutely rocks this name. Unexpected but lovely.

Judy is adorable. Judith, not so much. I'd just call her Judy.

FWIW, my teen son has a friend named Judy. It's adorable, and such a breath of fresh air amongst all the Maddies and Avas.

I think it is super ugly.

We know a little Susan, which is in the same vein. It will certainly help her stand out in the sea of names that end in -a.

If you love it, go for it. You could also use it as a middle name and I bet your MIL would be thrilled with that as well.

Love both names. We used grandparent names as middle names for our DC so that is my preference.
