I moved from my childhood town in 7th grade, and when I first got Facebook (around 2008) I reached out to a lot of my old friends. They all remembered me (or at least told me they did!) and it was nice to catch up.

That's weird. Time to move on, OP.

This is me, too. I feel totally forgettable yet remember everyone I was ever friendly with.

I don't think it's weird at all to reach out. I would be delighted to reconnect with long-lost friends.

I'd remember you! Go for it!

It's fine. Some probably won't see your message because of your settings. The only thing I'd caution you about is to have low expectations. You say you're lonely so will it make it worse if they don't respond or if they do a quick catch up and then stop talking to you?

If you remember them they probably remember you

Where did I say I'm trying to be besties?

If it's any encouragement:

I'm the same age as you. I posted my 6th grade class photo to Facebook one morning a few years ago and tagged the two people I was friends with. They commented and tagged a few people. By the end of the day, 22 out of 24 people had commented and sent friend requests. We spent the whole day treating the comments as one big group chat as we reminisced about things I'd long since forgotten.

We tried our hardest to find the last two people, but they disappeared off the face of the Earth, so I'm pretty sure your friends will remember you in some capacity.

I would LOVE to hear from someone like this. Reach out and the other person can either respond or ignore it.

I think totally fine and good via Facebook.

I think of a special elementary school best friend all the time. Her family moved away.

We had a lot of fun as kids. The song "Those Were The Days" by Mary Hopkins was made for the two of us.

Reach out to your friend, OP! Your childhood friend may very well remember you.

I'd very likely remember you and would love that you remembered me. I seem to have a knack for remembering others more than being remembered.

This happened all the time in the mid 2000s when FB spread to adults. I don’t think it is very common anymore.
