We bought a new dishwasher, fridge and washer and dryer but that was over five years, only dishwasher was a bit of a surprise. We insisted on electrical panel change after inspection and seller paid for that. Nothing else so far at 7 years.

These numbers are way off. Where did you find a fridge for a grand? $3000 to repair a toilet? What was wrong? And a leak fix for $6k?

Those sound very pricey OP and sounds like deferred maintenance.is this a 80/90s house? Those have a lot of old copper plumbing thats leaking or developing pin holes now and causing issues.

If you live in an area where houses are being turn down ask the builder if you can dig out shrubs and perennials with shallow roots. We re-landscaped our yard with these types of plants.
Ooh great idea! A house nearby was torn down recently - last spring the front yard was FULL of beautiful daffodils. I wish I had gone over with a shovel and taken the bulbs - now the yard is just a mound of dirt

Moved six months ago. Paid $1K to repair the HVAC (which isn't old enough to replace), $1800 for a new fridge (this is solely because the ice maker/water dispenser broke and my husband NEEDED it, I could have lived with it), and we are getting estimates in the next two weeks to repair the basement leaks and remove a tree. Those are going to be huge costs.
All of this is taking away from new floors/carpeting and new windows. We'll have to wait a few years for those

Replacing all the water valves is a smart expenditure. A leak will cost you much more. We also replaced all the old under sink valves.

We knew our house was a train wreck going in. I’m guessing about $200,000…. We had to redo the 60 year old bathrooms, the yard was basically a jungle, there were broken windows and uninsulated rooms, also some unwanted guests (mostly just bugs and mice)

We spent six figures on unexpected fixes- HVAC, roof, chimney/brickwork, front stone walkway and steps minor work, most appliances, water issue, some items that turned out to be stupidly expensive like replacing all old water valves of toilets for $1800. We knew things were toward the end of their life but did not expect to have to do this much in year 1.

I spend a few thousand to fix up various deferred maintenance. Gutter drip edge, gutter cleaning, power washing, carpenter bees, leaking downspouts, yard drainage, interior cleaning. The harder part is actually figuring out what’s wrong and not getting ripped off by contractors who want to make everything a huge project.
