Break ups of long term relationships bother me, yes. Not more than my kid, though.

One was a 4 year relationship. Ds#2 is in year 7 with this GF. Marriage is a regular topic. It will be upsetting if they break up.

It's not just parents of girls. I have friends who are SO incredibly involved in their boys' relationships, it is unbelievable. Knowing all the ins/outs, the fights, the make ups. Encouraging them to go to college together. Viewing the GFs as future DILs. It's super weird.

I know a mom who literally was involved in the breakup, in terms of the parents called each other to talk about it and see if it could be patched up. Seriously? and the whole extended family was invited to holidays etc. CRAZY. the kids broke up with the boy got another girl pregnant LOL, jokes on you mom.

sure it's normal to feel sad that she's sad, but to "mourn the relationship" yourself, that is completely over involved is because you had set up expectations and had future vision for plans that were not your life, but your DCs.

I posted above about mom friend of boys and she will not be a scary MIL. But she is just way overinvolved in counseling her boys. She has moved very fast including them in family vacays and things like that. And the issue is when they break up it makes it worse. One of them is going through that now and they are "not really broken up-broken up" b/c the families are so intwined. They all still talk and are "rooting for" the relationship.

Different families interact differently. It's absolutely understandable that their take seems odd to you and yours to them.
