We've noticed this as well (near IAD) and get way more re-routes over us the last 6 mos or so. The noise has been noticeable.

My theory as well. There has been a lot of this near me and my DH and I were just commenting how much more windy it is. Yes, you get storms but I mean general increase in winds and GUSTY days. It is def noticeable to us.

Actual data on winds would be better than arguing about people's perceptions which are full of biases.

Lifelong resident here. It’s definitely windier. Mostly in the last 10 years or so. March has always been windy. Now it’s windy year round when the weather changes. And that’s often.

No I don't feel this way at all. In my 40s born and raised in the suburbs here. I remember as a kids running around on summer days in the 1980s before summer thunderstorms and how insanely windy it would get. I also remember winter winds being fierce and making it so cold out. In comparison to say this year the wind feels like a distant memory. Spring always brought lots of wind and was the time of year you could routinely fly a kite. More recently there were crazy weather patterns that were constantly toppling oaks and other trees in the early 2000s. Loosing power in silver spring and other inner suburb areas was a constant threat from the wind for many years. Drove a lot of people crazy.

Living in northern virginia in 2024 I feel the opposite of you. I love wind and feel like we get very few really windy days.

Weather events have recently been more noticeable because of:

1. Heightened public awareness due to revised system of warnings and advisories. The threshold has been *lowered* for many snow/ice/flood/wind events due to population increases that make them a deadlier risk overall.

2. Global warming have made certain events more extreme, but this is not something the public would generally notice, apart from the main one: warmer winters, earlier springs, hotter summers, warm falls.
