I think it's only a few miles long at this point.
The northern part of Lake Garda is more dramatic, the southern part is flatter, and a little easier to get around. I'd probably pick the north-- Malcesine is pretty nice or Riva del Garda.
There are *lots* of tourists wherever you go though (unless you walk a few miles out of town on that cycling path).
