I think it's only a few miles long at this point.
The northern part of Lake Garda is more dramatic, the southern part is flatter, and a little easier to get around. I'd probably pick the north-- Malcesine is pretty nice or Riva del Garda.
There are *lots* of tourists wherever you go though (unless you walk a few miles out of town on that cycling path).
+1. And traffic during summer is terrible. Everywhere around de lake constant traffic jams. No bike line around the lake, only certain sections.

I’m not PP but I would echo the Rick Steves suggestion. This forum was ok for pretty general stuff usually but people don’t tend to post as much detail here. Once you have a spot or more specific ideas in mind the forum page of the Rick steves website can be super helpful to get hotel, restaurant, activity ideas from people who like to share a lot more.

We stayed in Ortisei and really loved it. Hotel Grien was lovely and had a very nice family room. A colleague has also strongerly recommended Madonna di Campiglio and photos of there looked very nice too.

Both are beautiful. We were in the Dolomites to ski this winter and will be on Lake Garda this summer so obviously we like Italy! There are hotels and Airbnbs at all price points in both. The weather in the Dolomites in the summer can be rainy, that is the only real downside I can think of. Last summer they had weeks of rain and you’ll feel very stuck if that happens.
