This seems like a tragic mistake. She leaves behind a very young child.

Once the car is fully submerged, terrifying as this thought is, should one be able to open a door since the water pressure is now equal inside and out?

Can you open a Tesla door manually, with no fingerprints/electric capacity needed? The few times I’ve ridden in a Tesla I was confused about how to open the dang doors.

Cars aren't meant to be driven in deep water. What do you suggest?

She made a fatal mistake driving that night instead of walking the short distance. Even billionaires with powerful in-laws make mistakes that can cause deadly results to themselves or others.

The water pressure makes it impossible to open the doors.

I have the same car and it would be as likely as putting any car in reverse. The difference is that the gear shift is on a screen, but the icon starts in the center when in park. You slide it up about 3 inches to go forward and down about 3 inches to reverse. I can’t really see getting them mixed up. Also as soon as you put it in reverse, a ton of back up cameras (reverse and then 2 more screens pop up for each reverse side). It would be impossible to not know you were in reverse before you even took your foot off the brake.

Then it definitely sounds suspicious, how would she not put her foot back on if intending to go forward. The timing is strange with McConnell's change of heart

Was she tired and inebriated? You can't drive a car like a Tesla without your wits about you since stepping on the accelerator to much can easily rocket you quickly forward or backward. It was probably dark and she was unaware of being so close to the pond until being in it.

She wouldn't be the first person to accidentally drive their car into a body of water and drown. Sounds like no one knew how to get her out in time.

I'm surprised this is being investigated as a criminal matter. Maybe that's true of any death that wasn't clearly a suicide? Does seem most likely by far to have been a drunken error.

The gear shift on a screen - WHAT? What if the electronics malfunction?

In this case the WSJ states she had done this before.

Then again, she's a billionaire. She's probably stepped on toes and she's probably up against some tough characters in the transportation/shipping industry.

I have a Tesla 3 from a few years ago. I didn't know that the newer Teslas have the gear shift on the screen. I would never, ever want that. I have enough trouble trying to get the heat/air temp to the right level on the stupid screen.

What a horrible way to die. I'm sorry for her and all the witnesses. Mitch is a scumbag but I wouldn't wish that on him either.
