OP here - thanks, everyone, for your input! My daughter touring SR this week and going to Madeira re-visit day on Friday. Hopefully, she will have a good sense of the best fit following that.

One example based on what is published on the school websites. Madeira has 3 post AP Calc BC options in multivar, differential equations and linear algebra.

SR has one option - multivar and that is not taught in school most years - the school uses an online school to teach the few advanced students.

The emphasis on religion at one school makes it a very different experience from the other. For the same reason both attract different cohorts. Neither is better or worse but they are surely different.

Madeira for sure. My DD had a great experience there. She wasn't in the theater program but some of her friends were and we went to most of the productions during her time there. We even went to some after she graduated because it was high quality.

Both are good schools. Madeira brings in girls from all over the world whereas SR has more of a local feel.

The other difference is religion. One is secular. The other is Catholic.

Stone Ridge is academically on par with Holy Child.

I don’t think there is any contest on the academic side. Madeira is stronger, hands down.

This again. Stone Ridge is NOT stronger academically. Madeira has a higher average SAT score than SR, though the ACT score is the same for both schools. Both schools have one 2024 National Merit Semifinalist. What’s your data?

Madeira and SR are both great schools and offer challenging academic paths for kids who need/want them. Splitting hairs on which school is academically stronger is just silly. SR has a very good art program and gorgeous new theater, but the arts at Madeira are excellent as well. SR is stronger athletically across the board so if your DD is less interested in sports, Madeira might be a better option because she might feel more comfortable trying something new if the overall feel of the athletics program was a bit less intense.

Did your daughter have a strong reaction to either? I would let her take the lead here, with the edge going to geography.

My daughter had an excellent experience at Madeira. It’s definitely a plus socially that all the students are new coming into 9th grade.
