We have a 2011B soccer player, who plays on an ECNL team and is in the Seattle Sounders Academy player pool. Looking for competitive clubs at the ECNL- or equivalent tier, but still fun and reasonable life balance. He's 13, loves soccer, but he isn't necessarily interested in MLS next exclusivity. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Your two arguably highest level boys options in the DMV are right in the Fort Belvoir area, Alexandria MLS Next and SYC MLS Next. Both are good programs and close, so while you said not really looking MLS Next, they're the two closest. The next closest ECNL programs are going to be FVU and Arlington, but you'll be driving past both MLS options to get there. The most competitive 2011 boys team locally is VDA ECNL, but practices are split location, one relatively close to Belvoir, one pretty far from Belvoir. Suggest checking them out, but also comparing commute to exactly where your son will be going to school given life balance statement. There are definitely other good clubs with options in the Belvoir area, but not up to the level you're describing your son to be at, and other ECNL/MLS Next options farther away, so would suggest starting with those five. Good luck!

Your closest top teams geographically are Alexandria (MLSN), SYC (MLSN), Arlington (ECNL). Go a little farther and you will be in FVU (ECNL) a little to the NW, NVA (ECNL) far to the NW, VDA, to the West and South territory, but the first three are much closer to Belvoir catchment area.

Alexandra MLSN 2011 is a pretty good option if he could get an offer.

Competitive mom who's son is on top team - I have nothing to worry about. My son takes private lessons from the coach, I will always have a starting position!

Says competitive mom wanting less kids at tryouts against her little angel that's definitely going pro one day soon.

Thank you for the shoutout, SYC TD!

Have you been to any of their tryouts? 90% of those who show up are current players, which is strongly influenced by the coaches.

Check out any other clubs in the area. Their ID sessions are strictly for NEW players who is not currently with the club.

Anonymous wrote:Not ECNL, but DC United is top. VDA, NVA, SYC (not ECNL), and Virginia Union (soon to be Fairfax Virginia Union) are all strong teams.

Do they run open IDs, or IDs are by invitation?
