Personally, I would have stood up when he was going around asking who had touched his things and I would have informed him, just a publicly that I had moved his things into the sink because he was taking up the small amount of counter that was shared by everyone in the office. I would point out that he was already asked to not leave his things there, he followed this for a couple of days and then again starting hogging up the public shared space. If he didn't want this to keep happening he should bring a towel, dry his dishes and take them back to his desk and not leave them around blocking others from using the shared space. I bet you would get applause from people who agree with you.

This would make a great comedy sketch!

Haven’t you ever seen one of those bagged salads in the grocery store? You mix the greens in a bowl with the dressing and nuts/seeds/croutons which come in separate baggies. Not sure why people are getting hung up on the word “assembling”.

In the summer, especially, I'll keep carrots, cucumbers, red onions, greens and bell peppers, and nuts/pita crips in a container in the fridge and I will assemble and dress one salad each day around 1. That is my lunch. Surely that is permissible if people are allowed to leave the building, get in their car, drive to Five Guys, order, wait, eat, drive back to the office, and get back to their desk.

Your mistake was putting it in the sink.

It should disappear if it is not where it belongs. Trash it in another part of building.

Plead ignorance, suggest it was tossed while being cleaned since it was abandoned.
