Subject: Have you disagreed w the college your child chose?
Just a couple of years ago our kid was in the same situation and actually decided to go someplace else all together.
We never questioned their choice, they are loving where they are and have never looked back and neither have we. They figured it out on their own and we support their decision.

Barring any new information that would seriously change your view of the schools, speak your piece and then let your child decide.

What if T20 (private) and T35 (OOS flagship)?
Knowing Your kid thrives in small class sizes but kid wants rah rah sporty school atmosphere …. these are lottery hypotheticals bc waiting to hear from T20
Answer is which ever place they will thrive at.

I don’t think there are differences between these that should make much of a difference.
My child was accepted to UGA and UMD and will likely pick UGA. They didn’t apply to Wisconsin. UMD would be much less for us because we are in state and they received a scholarship. If finances aren’t a concern for you, I think these three schools are pretty similar academically and I would let my kid decide. I agree with DC’s instinct about which school (have yet to hear from all schools). I know DC well and built the list. Would let DC pick, as I think all schools on list a good fit and will serve DC well. What to do when spouse wants to make the decision (and leans to status, which I don’t?). My 2c… if the rah rah school has a couple bad years for its sports teams, the rah rah kind of fizzles. Also depending on location of the T20, the pro teams can be fun especially for upperclassmen who by then want to get off campus.
Interesting the rah rah is also Wisconsin….same as OP?

You don't need to inject your opinion necessarily, but I would scrub all of the social accounts / websites of each school and pick out some interesting tidbits that you didn't find initially and share with them. Jump into the assistant researcher role.

I get it OP. My son got into his reach but wants to go to his safety, which is fine, but not the same prestige. He says he never expected to get into his reach, so never saw himself there. We are letting him decide.

As someone who was manipulated into staying in state because I thought I was magically tied to their finances, tread lightly. The regret runs high.
When I was younger, I was aggressively pressured to go to Princeton over another HYPSM school(an embarrassment of riches, I know). The other school had been my dream since childhood but I turned it down anyway to appease my father.
I have always harbored some resentment over that choice.
