Subject: When should we buy our registry items?
We never used a bassinet. We were in a small apartment and used a mini crib.
When I was 35 weeks pregnant my OB told me I was likely to have the baby early. My husband went out that day and bough the crib and the car seat and a box of diapers. We had a few outfits (but had to buy some smaller ones after she was born). I think the suggestion for a pump and a pumping bra are great too (and they don’t take up much room). We borrowed a snap-and-go frame for the car seat and that was our only stroller for about 6 months. We had that in advance. Through baby showers we had some very soft washcloths, a baby thermometer / a few medicines for babies and a baby bathtub.
While we had all these in advance (except for the pump bra), the diapers, outfits, pump, car seat, and crib were what we for sure needed right away. My husband came home from the hospital when our DD was a day old to build the crib (she was born at 36.5 weeks). My parents happened to be visiting - they’d planned to help us get ready - and took me out to get a bureau for her clothes. I do NOT recommend in-person shopping right after delivering!

Just put a few big ticket items on your registry and buy them in the 3rd trimester sometime with the "completetion discount" if that's still a thing.
Don't worry about putting every little small thing on there. You will over buy that way, and not a lot of is needed. Get some newborn and size 1 diapers (my babies moved up quickly) and some sleepers and swaddles and burp clothes. Then a crib and car seat. Bottles/breastfeeding supplies. Everything else is "extra".

Everything else can be gotten later. You can load up your carts now, but same- or next-day delivery and curbside pickup can be your new BFF.
I was shocked how little we actually needed and wanted vs what everyone told us we'd need and want.
Oh - and a super, super soft sleeping / nursing bra (your boobs will HURT when milk comes in) and nipple pads to soak up any leaked milk.
