Yes. You can opt out of the early admission process and apply to multiple schools, and you may still have a strong advantage coming from BVR, but you have to decide the path at the get go.

Beauvoir does not push NCS/STA at all in our experience over 3 kids. They talk to the families about what they want for their child and also where they think they would thrive. That is not what my DD’s friend reports from Sidwell. They have basically no homework at Sidwell and no tests. I hear things change in 5th grade when middle school officially starts at Sidwell.
On the other hand, my DD in 4th grade at NCS had more homework and tests every week.

Same. 4th in Sidwell is still part of the lower school, in most every way, according to bvr friends who went there after bvr. sta in contrast....

I dig out the old post because I have been wondering about this. Given 80% of the Beauvoir students automatically enroll in NCS/St. Alban, how do they compare with the students who enroll later? Do they screen students at least for some degree out of Beauvoir? Thus, NCS/St. Alban actually do not actually starts in 4th grade but like the other Big 3, starting in Prek.

Beauvoir students are not automatically enrolled in STA/NCS. They have to apply. They have a leg up in admissions, but they still apply.

How does that work? Is it the exact same process as someone applying to 4th from the outside?

No -- they have a special early admissions process and they find out in December (I think? Maybe January). It is not the general pool application process.

I have a daughter at NCS coming from BVR. Transition was no big deal, but they do have homework (they did in 3rd grade at BVR too) most days and quizzes, tests regularly. My daughter is very responsible, smart and always a great student so the transition was no bid deal. Some girls have a bit more of a hard time, but it seems to not compare to the transition to STA for the boys. They seem to have a lot more homework and tests than at NCS. Usually about the same number of boys and girls go into STA and NCS. There are always a couple of girls that are not a good fit for the school and the parents usually know before even applying. There are also other girls that choose different schools for other reasons.

Not 100% sure about STA, but it seems that the percentage of BVR boys that want STA is higher than the percentage of girls that want NCS so a few more BVR boys get left out of STA. In a class of 85 kids (typical for BVR) 40 boys apply to STA and only 30-32 get in. On the other hand, maybe 35 girls apply to NCS (as first choice) and 32-33 get in. At least this was what happened in my daughter’s year.

What is the percentage of students from NCS/STA from beauvoir?

At NCS in 4th it's very high -- about 80%. But of course as they get older and more girls join it gets diluted. But lower school it is absolutely the vast majority.
