It's fun reality TV, no one is forced, people are tripping over each other to perform.

The American celebrities are acquaintances of the parents, lured with promises of an incredible time. Which it appears they're having: they're living in luxury tents, can order any dish from the hundreds of personal chefs, have personal stylists that help them select Indian attire, and they can visit the huge nature preserve with tons of wildlife. It's a luxury vacation, and an opportunity to see other celebrities and network.

Indian culture traditionally displays all its wealth during its weddings. Please do not judge by your western cultures. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but an American heiress recently rented out VERSAILLES (and a host of Paris hotspots as well, like the Eiffel tower) to host her lavish wedding. So... Americans do it too!
