It is confusing! OOS DC was awarded $10k per year BUT was not accepted for CS. Which leaves the confusion that UMD thought DC was impressive enough to receive a merit scholarship, but not impressive enough for CS. Umm, need both.
Harder to get into CS than get a scholarship. These are decided by different committees too.
Step one: Admissions to UMD - congratulations she's in
Step Two: Accepted to CS, almost impossible.
Scholarships: Based on her merit. Merit aid is decided in a very different method than admissions. UMD doesn't have a ton of merit aid to give. So your student has received many positive acknowledgments of her academic talent from UMD.
