Well if they have to take one fewer course, that's more time to study. Also the first round is about the difficulty of the AP exam if not slightly easier.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Another option could be to self study for the AP exam during the honors course.

Can my kid ask for the counselor to change Chemistry honor into AP Chemistry without taking the Chemistry honor course at TJ in summer because my kid need to take PE course online in this summer. Please give some advices! I will be appreciated for any advices!
you can try, but you may want to first come up with a formidable reason
DP .. OP I am genuinely curious to understand why your child would want to do that ? Is there any advantage ?
Same reason for taking honors chem over regular chem or TJ over the home school. Or maybe they want to prepare for USChO, and AP would do a better job than honors.
USAChO is self prep. School class is irrelevant. If you need a school class, USAChO isn't relevant to you.

PE is an easy A. However, since it is not weighted, PE taken for letter grade can hurt overall weighted GPA but help unweighted GPA. Depends on what kind of grades your student expects at TJ. If student expects all As then go with pass/fail, so as to not drag down the overall weighted GPA. If student expects to receive a C or a B (anything other than A) on any one other course, then taking PE for letter grade would help bring up the overall unweighted GPA.
