I was in your shoes last year, watching my kid anxiously await high school decisions with her friends and classmates. I can tell you that no matter what news you get tomorrow, it will all work out. It’s an exciting time and a time of transition. There will be great days and hard days, times when you’ll feel great about your decision and times when some part of you will wonder if you made the right one. Your kids will meet new people and figure out who they most want to stay in touch with from their old school (and it’s not always the ones you think!). They’ll excel and stumble, get excited and complain, and learn more about who they are - and no matter what they see in the mail tomorrow, they’re going to be fine. I know it feels like a lot, but these decisions don’t define them and ultimately, they’ll realize that. In the meantime, keep busy, refresh the mail notifications, and when afternoon comes be there to celebrate, sympathize, or whatever else they need — and then encourage them to enjoy the rest of the year where they are. It goes by before you know it.

My high schooler coming from a K-8 is vaguely aware of it because others at the school talk about it, but has a list of four schools ranked in order and said he’ll just go to whatever is the highest on his list and it isn’t worth worrying about beyond that. Fairly solid reasoning.

Exactly what I was thinking as I read that poster. Wow. The worst part is this parent is clueless - probably thinks this is some sort of emotional bonding moment for the family. Poor kid. Then you wonder why teens and young adults have depression at record rates.

Pretty sure it was meant as satire. But funny how even then people felt the need to…

My DC is in elementary and doesn’t even remember tomorrow is the day. Or
That it’s up to the school to decide the outcome. We’ve kept it very lighthearted from the beginning with her. I on the other hand am definitely anxious.

I’m anxious because if she gets in, we will be spending 50k/yr.

I was definitely more nervous/anxious than my kiddo. We just went through the process for the first time and I was getting nervous after receiving 2 decisions and waiting on the 3rd (top choice) because our DS was conflicted with his back up school and not feeling deserving. After we received our 3rd acceptance we did the accepted students day and he was reminded of his top choice.
