Unless you have an annoying nerd manager, no one will know if you stay somewhere else. Some folks have family down there. Some want drive in and out. The hotels they offer are usually horrible.

I am a longtime manager and was going to say this. Every travel tournament I have every helped with has some kind of Stay-to-play but they vary on the required numbers. Some are very high and some surprisingly low. Jefferson Cup is definitely one of the higher ones. I have no idea whether anyone checks or not because there are always enough parents who sign up quickly (less thinking for them, more fun for the kids, like the idea of everyone staying together). But I mention this so the people who *never* take a room understand that this is valid and within the rules only because others take rooms.

Yes, I checked. We're officially 90 miles, so beyond their parameters. Just wondering if anyone has experience with how strict they are about exemptions (because let's be honest, this is all a $$$ racket).

We were 84 and couldn't get a waiver. I don't know if/how they actually check. They asked for the team hotel on the Onboarding documents, but that was it

I have been going to this thing for 8 years and we never stayed in one of those hotels.

DS is playing in the boys showcase weekend. I was disappointed in our assigned hotel (Hampton Inn) for a few reasons but mainly because it’s overpriced and we are not near most of the team. But now that I read what happened to your team, I’m feeling grateful. We’re just 10 minutes from the field.

What a mess the hotel situation around Jeff Cup is this year. Our team is probably going to be spread out across 10 different hotels and 35 miles apart. It's crazy.

Before the ECNL showcase in Florida this recent January, no one ever checked on our club from what I know. They did check this time. I have no idea what the result was. They also switch field locations by a lot (1-1.5 hours from the original destination) for the younger guys so they grant a hotel waiver when they’re the ones that do the changing. Our youngest is now outside of that and I cannot wait to be done with youth soccer organizations.

There are some camp grounds in the area.

If you make a big noise of this then they will be checking. There is a local club that doesn’t follow the rules, do you believe they stay at the assigned hotel?

This year for the girls showcase weekend most of the local hotels sold out before our team was even assigned a hotel!!! Some of the options are as far as WILLIAMSBURG (we play in Richmond). So we won't even be staying together as a team for the first year ever. If they force us to stay then at least have reasonable accommodation options. Le sigh.
