This! We waited until a break sophomore year and roots of one tooth were close to a nerve by then. I wish we had taken care of it a year earlier.

We banged it out Thanksgiving weekend of high school senior year. No big deal to miss Thanksgiving dinner one year. So glad it is over!

Get it done as soon as possible. If your child has the surgery on a Friday, it's possible they can go to classes on Monday but it's likely they will need a couple of Advil. The day of surgery and the day after surgery is the most intense and they will be taking something for pain. Day 3 you can see how they are feeling, but likely will still take pain meds. Day 4 you can usually taper down to Advil and take it easy but go to classes. The rest of the week they are tender, but not in pain. That means mostly soft foods and easing back into things. I would say by the following Friday (1 week) they can eat normal foods. First few days they have eggs, pancakes, mashed potatoes, ice cream. NO STRAWS because that can cause a dry socket - we avoided straws for one week. No nuts or tiny seeds that can get stuck while things are healing. No spitting after they brush their teeth- we avoided that for one week - just let liquid "fall" out of their mouth.

Don’t count only two days for recovery. Give your kid five days to be safe.

Where I grew up, it was like a rite of passage to get our wisdom teeth removed the summer after HS graduation and before we left for college.

I have and am doing the same for my kids (during senior year or summer before college starts)

My DS got all of them pulled over Christmas break sophomore year. Was no big deal.

My parents did it during Christmas break too when I was a freshman (I think). They also DIDN'T TELL ME. Jerks.

Took a couple of days to recover but it wasn't a huge deal in hindsight. And, yes, it was a revolving door of wisdom teeth extractions at the oral surgeon's office that week.
