Correct. About 15 years ago, the NCAA tried to require you to be all in or all out for D1. Hopkins along with a couple of other schools that are primarily D3 sports but have a D1 program (Union college for hockey) fought it and were grandfathered in but no other schools can make that move now.

As a note, most B1G and ACC schools (regardless if they offer DI lax) have club lax programs.

NP here, and my son is looking for the same thing as OP. he wants to play D3 lacrosse, and have the experience of being at a school with big time football, but not actually play football. He is good at both sports, but he is realistic that he is no Jordan Faison.
As far as I know, there is no such school, so he will be looking at places like Boston College, Virginia Tech, SEC schools, that have competitive club lacrosse.
Honestly I don't think that NCAA structure would allow a school to have both D3 lacrosse and D1 football. but if there is such a program, I would love to hear about it.

They are all MCLA club teams. Big D1 schools do not field d3 teams. Just club. That is why Virginia Tech does not have a lacrosse team
