Is it normal to hire a law clerk who has lived with you for a year? I've recused myself from hiring panels where I went to graduate school with the applicant. I didn't realize that Nepo Supreme Court justice clerks were a thing, but if anyone would push those boundaries, it's clearly Clarence Thomas.

But aren't there federal rules about conflicts of interest in hiring? If you're hiring someone who lived with you for a year, it's like hiring your kid (which presumably is against some federal statute).

This is the United States Supreme Court, not McDonalds. There should be a higher standard.
