I once ordered one from a Toyota dealer in Ohio or somewhere and only paid for programming at the dealership here.

Costco has a key replacement van that goes to different locations. Great reviews on it. It will still be over $200 though.

Yes, he is paying for it and he can't drive until we get the new key. I'm not letting him drive with the only key we have. So he's not happy. : )

Bad parenting to buy unnecessary expensive stuff and then make your minor child responsible for caring for it.

Car keys are "unnecessary expensive stuff"?

LOL!!

Obvious troll is very obvious. Please go do something amusing to the rest of us like slamming your head in a door.

My teenager lost the key Fob to our Camry. I called the dealer and they can order a new Fob and program it for "around $500". Are there any cheaper, but as dependable, options? I'm thinking that dealers always tend to be the most expensive option. What if the key was actually stolen and one of his friends has it. Any way to prevent the "lost key" from working? Thanks.

How old is it? Up to ~2017 you can buy a fob for under $100 program it yourself.

Yeah, he thinks he lost them at a store that he and a friend went to. We called the store and noone turned them in. I'm glad it wasn't at school.
