A lot of people get really routine oriented and even rigid with age. You can set off a ton of unneeded anxiety by just stopping my.

Yeah I would not be upset by this. They want the Senior to be comfortable, clean, shiny and ready for their visit.

This, plus I am a middle age adult and if you "just stopped by": my home, I would be really annoyed, especially if it was a day I had off. My grandmothers insisted we schedule visits and even when they could no longer keep a calendar, we set things up with the place in advance.

I’ve toured some and they’re all depressing (but so are the larger facilities), but maybe someone’s had a good experience with them?

I thought those places were low-budget / run by the government / for the impoverished.

Are there actually nice ones? Doesn't sound like it.

OP, you need to ask what is the staff to resident ratio? Is the a nurse onsite? If not, when do they come? Does a doctor come to house regularly? What is tenure of staff? At the end of the day it is the staff at these facilities that make the difference - not all the amenities. Most important things to consider are how many caregivers they have and what are their credentials? There is a shortage of CNAs and nurses, so you want to make sure you find a place that is staffed correctly.
