So are those of us in VA. Wish a number of my neighbors would join you.

I lived in Frederick a few years ago and the city alderman were all Dem. Also, half of them were black.

Cops not allowed to pull over people for some violations while driving, like dark tinted windows because it impacts mostly certain groups.
Repeat violent kids allowed back in schools because it impacts mostly certain groups, but also hurts that same group the most.
Allowing illegal immigrant criminals to roam free on our streets, mostly impacts lower/middle income people.

Moco is way too soft on crime. If it wasn't so soft on crime, I might agree with you.

I would go a little softer on the racism, but I agree MoCo is a little too soft on crime/criminality, and it is also affecting the schools. But still I would prefer that to the opposite extreme of crazy MAGAs everywhere…

What did PP say that was “racist”?

Why didn't she say, we need to be tougher on people that cheat on their taxes and commit white collar crimes? Why not be tougher on mommy wine drinkers who show up to school events drunk. Why?

? Are the mommy wine drinkers completely falling-down drunk at school events? I've never seen that. I don't drink alcohol myself.

Violent crime isn't usually committed by mommy wine drinkers or white collar criminals who commit tax fraud. I'm actually all for funding the IRS even more to go after rich tax cheats.

The people who suffer violent crime the most are the poor people, who happen to be mostly a certain group in MoCo.

Im just gonna be upfront: I love living in the wealthy liberal bubble that is Bethesda. It truly doesn’t get any better. No riff raff, fancy stores, and closeness to the city. Neighbors are diplomats or in high powered careers, a delight to talk to. Truly the best of both worlds. Taxes are reasonable, and honestly, could be much higher given my income: tax us more!!!

And I don’t envy the rest of Maryland: might as well be Indiana for what it’s worth.

It just seems that angry populism and demagoguery is taking over the world. This may sound elitist but I don't care: I am grateful to be surrounded by educated, smart, level-headed people who elect politicians who are also educated, smart, and level-headed.

Yes, one can complain about Maryland for its taxes and traffic and occasional bureaucratic hangups in local government. Yes I'm aware of MCPS scandals and crime, but none of these problems aren't things you come across elsewhere. Sure, we could do better, and people know that, and they go out there and elect people to do better. Sometimes it's disappointing. But it's always sane and normal. MAGAs don't win here. We elect rational adults from with enough ideological diversity from Hogan to Raskin. People here believe in the rule of law, a functional democracy, that vaccines work, that public health is important and not a mind-control conspiracy, that public education is not woke indoctrination, and we believe in regulated free-market capitalism with empathy those down on their luck.

It's great to be in a place where conspiracy theories are not the norm, where people don't worship dictators who hate America, where people actually love this country and its values. It's not a one-party state either, it's that the MAGA party doesn't get very far. Hogan Republicans do. And the Democrats we elect are not the wild-eyed Squad types and not populist left-wing demagogues either (Elrich notwithstanding). While Maryland may be to the left of most of the country politically by US standards, I would really say we're ideologically the most moderate and sensible on a global scale.

Add Jawando to the list.

I'm the first poster. I'm assuming the ^PP takes exception to the words "certain groups". MoCo council and executive are the ones who stated this.

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/montgomery-county-to-consider-banning-some-traffic-stops/3290202/

From what I gather, the state of MD indicated that some of these laws are state laws, so MoCo cant implement them, but they tried to.

But the progressives are still trying to find ways to be soft on crime.

Yes, I'd rather live here than deep MAGA country (I'm a non white immigrant), but that doesn't mean I like the direction MoCo is going.

Your post should be titled, “I am so glad to live in my slice of close-in Montgomery County.”

OP. Go spend some time in West Baltimore. Walk down Fulton Ave in Sandtown and then report back about how Maryland is full of people who respect the law. This post is so delusional I honestly think it’s trolling.

I was in Arundal Mills Mall the other week and amount of white meth addicts with face tattoos and hood behavior in general was eye opening and a far cry from what I experience when I go to Tysons. Are these the type of highly educated people you’re referring to? Get out of your Beltway bubble.

.

I’m a 50 yr old white guy, live in Chevy Chase Village, drive an older, expensive car in pristine condition, drive very sedately, and I’ve been pulled over twice in the last year for window tint despite my Florida tags (where the car is titled and tagged) ..

Cops in MoCo are indeed still pulling people over for minor things. Just not black people.

lol!

Question regarding MD QOL-

Since decriminalization, DC reeks of pot..to the point that for that alone we are thinking of moving. It reeks everywhere, doesn't matter the neighborhood.
The writing is on the wall that pot will be decriminalized nationwide, so the nuisance factor comes down to where the ordinances against public smoking, nuisance smoke shops etc are enforced or not. In DC, it's a "not"

How is MD? I haven't noticed the clouds coming from people/cars where I've been there, but I don't live there. What's it been likes since you all decriminalized, and why?

I have noticed no change. People who smoke pot in Sligo Creek or Northwest Branch parks, they procured it before it was legal. The only difference is now we collect tax revenue from it. Most people who were interested in purchasing legal cannabis purchased edibles so that makes no nuisance as far as smell goes.

So no clouds of smoke in Bethesda Row? We have it all over NW DC from Tenleytown to Dupont to Georgetown. And wafting from cars.
