Didn’t like it all when we toured; similar reaction. DC didn’t apply. Just didn’t like the campus or the vibe, although liked the idea of being outside Boston. Know it’s super competitive now, so Tufts didn’t need the application-just saying we also didn’t like it.

My daughter took a summer program there and there was a massive cockroach infestation. We had to send DD and her friends a large carton of "Roach Motels" to keep them out of their rooms.

The dining situation is terrible. they have two cafeterias and one of them is totally gluten free, nut free etc. I get the need to isolate some of the nut stuff, but why make 50% of your dining gluten-free exclusively? Why not just offer gluten-free options.

The other cafeteria is not great, frozen food in bags heated up style. But take a burger like that and put it on a gluten free bun and it's basically inedible.

What is going on there? It was so dull, the architecture looked blah, the food was terrible, the dining room was leaking. the kids all seemed bored, sitting alone (except for some teams that were eating together). No life on campus - my kid asked if they were on break. The information session was .. okay. The tour was ridiculously boring.

I know people like Tufts. What did we miss?


It’s fun to say “Tufts” even though nobody pronounces the second T.

I think what’s probably going on is that this is a hard time for schools with a tight focus on the liberal arts. Tufts might just have a hard time keeping up in terms of endowment and fundraising.

I liked Tufts as did my son. We both liked the size and location. Two friends kids went there and loved it. Very smart accomplished kids.

We visited several schools in/around Boston and Tufts was among them. When we arrived on campus DD didn’t even want to get out of the car. So dismal.

Tufts is a great school - but if you step forward and speak the truth, after having actually toured a school in person, there is a poster that will accuse you (after themselves starting a hate thread on said school) of being a "booster". DCUM is woefully (or perhaps blissfully) ignorant of so many great schools - it is becoming difficult to take many college threads seriously, on this site.

They have a good engineering program with a liberal arts college feel. We thought the campus was very pretty. DD would have applied if she hadn't gotten into ED school. We were concerned that FA wouldn't be as good as other schools but don't know that for sure. Friend's kid is there and loving it.

With the general reputation, name recognition and Boston, we had it on top of our list. Then we did the tour and DC never applied. Looked like a school rapidly going downhill. There was nothing attractive about the info session or the tour or the campus or the students we saw.
