I’m a boy mom so no I don’t let my kids do any of this, but I also don’t think you can compare dance/gymnastics to posting scantily clad photos of your child on the internet for monetary gain knowing thousands (more) of pedos will be looking and commenting on them.

Not a dance mom, have no idea what "shimmy" is, but thinking ahead and monetizing pedophiles' interests is much worse than having your DD wear a two-piece swimsuit (what?). There is nothing natural or inevitable about making those additional steps; it's like saying pinching someone is the same as murdering him, just a few steps ahead.


I was a dance kid too and don’t mind two-piece swimsuits, but the PP is primarily right. It’s not “pinching someone vs. murdering him”, it’s “severely beating someone up vs. murdering him.” The outraged “cool moms” are just a step behind.

It's about access. All these "outraged moms" as you say, may allow all the things the PP is viewing as the lowest rung on a sliding scale towards the Instamoms, but they aren't comparable.

And the fact that you make that comparison tells me you have no idea how the internet and pedophile rings operate.

The article is right. These moms are in over their heads and they have no idea.

Okay my kid is not in dance but there’s no comparison here. If I let her wear a bikini to the pool, I’m exposing her to maybe 200 people. If there is a pedo there, they can’t photograph her (it’s not allowed at the pool). I have eyes on her the whole time.

A public Instagram profile is exposed to many millions of people, and the photographs live forever. That’s not the same at all.

Thanks for sharing this article. Absolutely horrifying and it's just unreal that so many people are letting down these girls. Not just the mom's but Meta, the authorities, etc.

My DD has friends who have their own phones, Tik tok accounts, instas, etc. And they are 8 years old.
