We put our kids who needed extra support in Catholic school due to smaller class size. 3 years in, the class size was larger than our public school and without any resources for the support. Flash forward and that 3 years of tuition would really come in handy as we are putting everything extra in the 529s for our highschoolers. we had to reduce our 529 contributions during those years and realized it wasn’t feasible longterm. Also be aware how much tuition increases as ages increase. Even Catholic highschools are $25k plus per year. Also, you are asked to pay/contribute a lot of extra $ they are not allowed to ask for in public school.

2 children have special learning needs and would benefit from smaller class size

Catholic schools have large class sizes and don’t really accommodate learning disabilities.

The question is rather how much do private schools cost in your area, and among those how much do those schools that you like cost?

If you are religious, catholic schools seem to be a good deal.

Our daughter got into our dream school so we have to suck it up...

My two children attendee publics and both graduated from T-15 colleges and are doing very well in their careers. The money I saved not giving into the private school vortex has allowed us to retire young.

We are Catholic, but took our SN son out of Catholic schools because they could not provide the necessary supports, despite the smaller class size. Public schools have been better in that regard. I'm sure a good private would be, as well. But I wouldn't compare parochial schools to regular private for support services.
